Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians. The Intern, Internal Audit will assist the Internal Audit function with the execution of the annual internal audit plan as required. The Interim Internal Auditor will assist in assessing the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management systems, and financial and operational processes within the company, and provide recommendations for process improvements. Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. What you'll do
Work in collaboration with management and process owners on internal audit projects.
Review and assess the effectiveness of risk management systems/programs.
Conduct internal audits and/or special reviews of controls and procedures in accordance with a risk-based audit plan and draft audit reports for review.
Conduct process walkthrough meetings; create and maintain process flow diagrams, narratives, and Risk Control Matrices (RCM).
Review and assess control deficiencies.
Document and summarize deficiencies, recommend remediation, and identify and recommend opportunities for improvement.
Support the preparation of material, presentations, and other documentation as required for periodic management meetings.
Perform additional ad-hoc analysis and other duties as assigned.
