St. John’s International Airport (SJIAA) is a not-for-profit, non-share capital corporation with a mandate to operate a safe and efficient air transportation facility at Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier transportation gateway. We are currently seeking the services of Heavy Equipment Operators for our winter operations season. Under the direction of the Supervisor, Airfield Maintenance, these positions are responsible for the operational and structural maintenance and care of the airfield, airport grounds and support sites. Specifically, these positions will be responsible for snow removal and ice control in accordance with the airport’s winter maintenance plan, heavy equipment operation, general equipment maintenance, and general labour duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS
Formal heavy equipment training and certification from a recognized training institution
Valid class 3 provincial driver’s license with 08 and 09 endorsements
Minimum of two years’ experience in heavy equipment operation
High school diploma (or equivalent)
General labour and construction experience
Must obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
Must obtain and maintain a valid Airport Vehicle Operator’s Permit (AVOP)
Knowledge of safe work practices and regulations
These positions work a rotating shift schedule (40 hours per week are guaranteed) combined with standby and overtime, when required. These are unionized positions with competitive pay and benefits, in accordance with the collective agreement. These positions are for the period November 28, 2024, until March 26, 2025.
