Dietetic Aide - Term Position

Available to work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and every other weekend from 2:45pm-6:30pm.
Position Summary and Scope of Service:

Reporting to the Manager, Nutrition Services and consistent with the Mission, Values and policies of St.Amant, the Dietetic Aide is a critical role in ensuring the success of St.Amant business and operations.

Exemplifying the mission, vision and values of St.Amant, the Dietetic Aide works collaboratively with partnered programs while offering employees respectful customer service.

Under the direction of the Manager, Nutrition Services, the Dietetic Aide prepares portions and serves food, nourishments, and supplements for therapeutic diets and enteral feedings in appropriate quantities and in compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations and according to menus and standardized recipes. Maintains organization, cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment including all dishware.

The Dietetic Aide transports food, nourishments and supplies to all programs and service areas in St.Amant. Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of all food carts, dishware, supplies and equipment by following regularly scheduled cleaning and maintenance procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
Educational:
  • Completion of Grade XII (or G.E.D.)
  • Valid Food Handlers Certification Level 1
  • Combination of 2015 hours of work experience in food preparation in an institutional setting and/or food service is preferred
  • Knowledge of therapeutic and texturized diets is preferred

Duties and Responsibilities
Program/Service Support
Consistent with the Mission, Philosophy and Policies of St.Amant, the Dietetic Aide demonstrates proper food service procedures and ensures that proper food handling procedures are followed at all times in the preparation and service of food. Quality services are evident when professional communication, timeliness, accuracy, ethical awareness / sensitivity, confidentiality are consistently demonstrated as required by legislation and program/service standards.
Duties include:
  • Prepares, portions and serves food, beverages, nourishments, supplements and enteral feedings for people supported according to diet plans and following menus, standardized recipes and tallies and/or production sheets and client Kardex under the direction of the Manager, Nutrition Services
  • Ensures the preparation of quality food, service of prescribed portions, correct serving temperature of foods and the use of safe food handling practices
  • Texturizes foods, nourishments and supplements according to client needs and according to international texturization standards
  • Ensures that food is held and served at appropriate temperatures
  • Meets food preparation and serving deadlines
  • Works within service schedules to have food ready on time for service
  • Labels, refrigerates, freezes or places in dry storage area, all leftover food in appropriate containers within 30 minutes after service
  • Ensures regular rotation of refrigerated and frozen foods and dry goods according to FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures
  • Prepares supplements and enteral feedings according to prescribed diet orders and recipes
  • Presents all foods in a wholesome and appealing manner
  • Serves food to residents in a friendly, respectful, service and person-centered manner
  • Performs cleaning routines, and ensures the maintenance of sanitation and cleanliness of all work areas and equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned, and as required
  • Responsible for responding to kitchen phone calls and maintains documentation of all requests. Fulfills all call requests in a timely manner
  • Manages and coordinates information needs, collects needed statistics and data to support the provision of quality services
  • Reports on status of work completed, and work outstanding to the Manager or designate
  • Reports all matters of significance, unusual or sensitive events immediately to the Manager or designate
  • Consults with the Supervisor to ensure equipment repairs are completed as necessary, services are cost effective and meet sanitation and food handling regulations

St.Amant is a bilingual organization. Proficiency in both official languages (French/English) would be considered an asset.
As a Condition of Employment, successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check.
As a Condition of Employment, new hires must complete a series of Occupational Health checks. This includes the requirement to confirm immunization or immunity of specific communicable diseases.
