Child Care Support Worker YTC Project Safe Haven The Yorkton Tribal Council is seeking one (1) highly motivated individual for a full time position of Child Care Support Worker for Project Safe Haven. Reporting to the Director of Project Safe Haven, the Child Care Support Worker position is responsible for the development, implementation, and delivery of programs for the Children in the Project Safe Haven. ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: YTC Project Safe Haven is a twenty-four-hour safe shelter for women and their children who are leaving abusive situations. Project Safe Haven offers counselling, group therapy, healing circles, parenting skills and various other activities to help families adjust to their new abuse-free lifestyles. Duties:
Supervise and monitor the safety of the children in the Shelter at all times.
Organize activities and implement curriculum that allow children to learn about the world and explore interests. Organize structured playtime, and physical activity within the Shelter.
Watch for signs of emotional and developmental delays and assist the parents in providing appropriate referrals to helping agencies.
Maintain filing system, computer programs and files for all progress, routines and interests of the children.
Provides support for crisis intervention, assessment and referrals for children. Prepare routine correspondence for department staff when assisting with families, while providing information and support.
Develops and implements services and programs for client children and mothers;
Completes client intakes, follow up, advocacy, report writing, outreach and general administration.
Initiates new programming for children and parents.
Develop contacts with other agencies in the community who serve the needs of children. Making appointments and calling necessary Service Providers to assist parents in advocacy.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with outside organizations and agencies.
Provides regular reporting and updates to the Director and other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Must have a Grade 12 and a certificate or diploma in Educational Assistant or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
· Two to years’ experience in a similar position is required and an ability to use standard office equipment, computer and related software. Experience working with various computer programs;
Familiarity with Community Resources;
· Knowledge and respect of First Nations culture and values; · Excellent communication and organizational skills; · An understanding of First Nations values and traditions, with an emphasis on healing initiatives within First Nation communities · Must provide a criminal record check (CPIC) and a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Must be willing to travel and must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
· Work irregular or extended hours to complete special requests and/or projects. · Must manage a number of people, priorities and projects at one time, and may have to respond to emergency or crisis situations
