Across its districts, NSPHA provides more than 11,200 safe, affordable homes as part of its Housing Services to seniors and families. District offices manage the day-to-day operations of Nova Scotia’s housing stock. Their responsibilities include administering tenant applications and placements, collecting rent, resolving tenant issues, and maintaining and repairing properties. About Our Opportunity Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for carrying out those duties normally associated with the trade(s) in which they became qualified under the Apprenticeship and Tradesman’s Qualifications Act of the Province of Nova Scotia. This opportunity is focused on appliance repair. Primary Accountabilities •Maintain all building codes, installation requirements and relevant legislation by ensuring all installations, repairs and maintenance meet the requirements of appropriate codes. •Install, repair, and maintain any of the appliances in NSPHA units. •Service kitchen ranges, cook top stoves, wall ovens, refrigerators, laundry equipment and employer’s maintenance tools and equipment. •Monitor, repair and arrange for service, in accordance with applicable codes and employer’s policy and procedures, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, emergency and exit lighting, lighting and power systems and fixtures, doorbells, and entry intercom systems. •Service heating systems include low voltage electric heating equipment and control heating system components. •Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders, vehicle reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and inventory records. Qualifications and Experience •Certificate of qualification under the Apprenticeship and Tradesman’s Qualifications Act of the Province of Nova Scotia or interprovincial certification (Red Seal Journeyperson certification) plus three years’ experience in building and property maintenance or related field is required. •Knowledge of residential building technology, basic knowledge of National Building Code and Occupational Health & Safety Act. •Basic knowledge of desktop applications such as Microsoft Office. •Detail oriented, accurate, and able to analyze data and trouble shoot as required. •Must have Fire Alarm troubleshooting experience. •Communication skills, both verbal and written and interpersonal skills are required in dealing with tenants, staff and contractors. •Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes. Assets •First Aid and WHMIS. •Experience with Yardi Property Management software would be considered an asset. •Preference will be given to those who have a background in appliance repair.
