Boomaroo Nurseries’ is a world class vegetable seedling producer, supplying over 300 million seedlings to growers across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, ACT, Tasmania, and South Australia. We are looking to recruit 2 Vegetable Grower’s to be responsible for ensuring that Boomaroo Nurseries can meets its customer’s specification expectations including delivery is in full and on time. They will ensure that the Nursery is free of pest and disease, while working closely with the Head Grower in planning fertigation, spray, water application programs for all products. About the role:
Immediately reporting any problems including product quality issues, equipment faults, damages, and defects to the Head Grower.
Following Boomaroo Biosecurity, food safety and Organic production requirements.
Minimising waste by following correct procedures and efficient handling of product.
Monitor plant health to ensure the nursery is free of disease, grubs, pests, and other threats.
Grow product(s) to the required specification to deliver on time in full.
Use the standard grow profile baselines to ensure standardisation within the growing process to always reducing waste and meeting customers’ specifications.
Raise any exceptions and plant health issues to Head Grower, Production Manager and Sales Representatives according to the escalation process.
Complete weekly assessments and reports.
Preparation of daily water, fertigation and spray programs, and provision of this information in written form to Growing team members (including collation and checks to ensure desired work is complete).
Support growing team on daily basis making sure all work is completed as required and in a timely manner
Communicate/coordinate movement of benches with the Movement Coordinator on a daily basis.
Work to standardise and document Boomaroo production growing processes.
Seek information and data on new growing techniques, products, and systems to be innovative and proactive in its growing processes.
Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, in particular changing crop varieties and changing external threats (pest, disease and other).
Implement preventative weekly spray programs, plus reactive solutions to any pest or disease issues as they arise.
Monitoring the Priva system, including daily and weekly control checks.
Monitoring the Technison system on a daily basis.
Communicate operational concerns with the Maintenance team regularly.
Management and procurement of all chemicals required for the production growing process.
Participate in the Production Scheduling meetings to ensure that all parties are on board with the plans being prepared.
Follow supplier product specifications. Check exceptions within the report and allocate accordingly or escalate further.
Work to standardise and document Boomaroo production growing processes.
Seek information and data on new growing techniques, products, and systems to allow Boomaroo be to innovative and proactive in its growing processes. Including participating in trials.
Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, in particular changing crop varieties and changing external threats (pest, disease and other).
Give direction and coach General Nursery Hands and other staff in relation to the growing process.
Any reasonable duties or tasks, as allocated by the supervisors and or management.
About you:
Qualifications in Horticulture, Agronomy, Ag Science, or similar discipline.
At least 3 years growing experience.
Experience working in a large horticulture production facility.
Ag Vet Chemical Users Course.
Experience with the application of water, fertigation, spray programs.
Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, discretion and judgment within the range of skills and knowledge.
Demonstrated ability to plan and implement growing processes with minimal guidance.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to coordinate and implement a process independently.
Ability to give independent advice and give direction to other staff.
Proven experience working under pressure whilst maintaining sound analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effectively manage competing priorities and commitments.
Proven ability to communicate effectively and liaise with others.
Strong computer literacy skills including an ability to learn and understand new systems.
Ability to keep and explain extensive and important records.
Ability to learn and develop your growing skills.
We are looking for 2 permanent full-time Vegetable Growers, one of the roles will be more senior. Both may require regular weekend work, based in Southbrook QLD. The renumeration is $77k to $85k (gross) annually, depending on if you are in in the more senior role. Plus superannuation, plus penalties for weekend work.
