This position is funded by the ARC Centre of Excellence in Optical Microcombs for Breakthrough Science, which explores societal impacts of optical frequency combs through advances in physics, materials science, and nanofabrication.
Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) has recently revolutionised seismology by turning telecommunication fiber-optic cables into high-resolution ground motion sensors. This cutting-edge technology bridges the gap between traditional seismic imaging and geological samples, offering a wide range of applications. The Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Fellow will work on the deployment, acquisition, analysis and interpretation of large DAS datasets and development of technical advances using optical frequency microcombs. The goal is to expand the capability of our strong field-based seismic imaging research utilising DAS with new technology innovations through the ARC Centre of Excellence COMBS, and therefore understanding of the Earth’s structure and evolution. The Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Fellow will be a member of Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES). RSES is Australia’s leading academic research institution for Earth and Marine Sciences, and ranked 11th in the world for Earth and Marine Sciences (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023). To find out more about the RSES community, check out our Twitter and Instagram. We have a reputation for international leadership and innovation, focused on developing new methods, whether experimental, analytical or computational. Our research spans the range from solid earth evolution to climate processes, and from 21st century resources to climate change impact. We operate iconic and state-of-the art instrumentation supported by highly trained professional staff, offering an unrivalled world-class research environment. Our cutting-edge research provides an unparalleled environment for high-quality research training of our graduate students. Our people and facilities are also the foundation for our vision to deliver world-class research-led undergraduate teaching in the Earth Sciences.
