About the role
The Engagement Assistant’s primary purpose is to enhance Gwoonwardu Mia’s public profile through the delivery of high-quality customer service and positive interaction with the public.
This position is responsible for presenting and facilitating a range of educational and interpretive experiences to diverse audiences, including school groups, and general public and special interest groups.
This role also provides a retail and merchandise service to visitors as well as supporting the Artist in Residence program.
About you
The ideal candidate for an Engagement Assistant position within Gwoonwardu Mia would possess a strong understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture, traditions, and history. They should have excellent communication skills, be passionate about preserving and sharing Aboriginal knowledge, and be respectful and culturally sensitive in their interactions with community members. Additionally, the ideal candidate must be organised, creative, and have experience in supporting events. A willingness to learn, collaborate, and adapt to the needs of the community would also be highly valued.
The successful applicant will be expected to:
  • Present and facilitate a range of engaging, fun, educational and interactive experiences for diverse audiences, both onsite and offsite where required.
  • Work as a member of the Gwoonwardu Mia team to ensure effective delivery of existing programs, including after hours and weekends on occasion.
  • Perform shop retail duties in the Gallery Shop, including using the electronic retail operating systems.
  • Other duties as required with respect to the scope of the position.

Eligibility to Apply
To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid Work Visa (for fixed term appointments), or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.
A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department’s Police Record Screening Policy.
We also require the following:
  • A valid Working with Children Check.
Pool Recruitment
A Pool will be open for a period of 18 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Fixed term, full time and part time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.
Applicants found suitable in this pool may be considered for subsequent, similar vacancies with the Western Australian Museum and the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) for the duration of the Pool.
