About the opportunity:
Life Care’s team of Chaplains provide pastoral and spiritual care to older people, their loved ones and staff of five residential aged care homes located in Aldinga, Reynella, Everard Park, Joslin and Glen Osmond, operated by aged care provider Opal Health Care.
We are seeking an experienced Coordinating Chaplain to lead our residential team. This full-time role includes 3 days per week as the Chaplain in one residential aged care home.
We also have positions available for part-time (0.6 FTE) and casual (2-3 days per week) Chaplains, to join either our Residential or Community teams, please see separate advertisement.
As the Coordinating Chaplain – Residential Aged Care, you will be responsible for leading the provision of Life Care’s Chaplaincy Service within five Opal Health Care Care Communities, to ensure quality and consistency. You are also responsible for direct provision of spiritual care as a Chaplain at one Opal Health Care Care Community.
Your key responsibilities will include implementing and maintaining Life Care’s Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Model as agreed with Opal Health Care; leading and supervising the team of Chaplains to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality spiritual care; providing spiritual care for older people, their family members or representatives, staff and volunteers; conducting and reviewing assessments of each older person’s spiritual needs as a key contributor to care planning; advocacy and education which build others’ understanding of spiritual wellbeing; providing pastoral care and supporting religious practices of those who have a Christian faith; facilitating group programs and special events of spiritual significance; and role modelling professional behaviours that create a high performing, engaged culture.

You’ll need to have:
Qualifications:
Post-graduate qualification (Grad. Dip. or Masters) in Chaplaincy / Spiritual Care / Theology / Ministry or Counselling
Skills and Experience:
At least three years’ experience providing spiritual care outside a faith community, preferably in aged care or health settings
Intuitive and refined communication skills and capacity to build and maintain trusted and influential relationships at all levels
Demonstrated ability to form and lead teams, coach team members towards success and implement change
Demonstrated ability to provide person-centred care for people from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of multi-disciplinary teams
Demonstrated ability to support people living with dementia and provide end-of-life support for older people and their families
Experience providing pastoral care and leading personal and communal practices of Christian faith
Experience preparing and delivering group programs
Excellent skills in communication, administration and organisation, using current ICT
Personal Spirituality and Faith Commitment:
Active personal faith and involvement in Christian church/community
Accredited as a minister of religion or pastoral worker with a Christian denomination
Reflective Practice Formation:
Completion of two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (400 hours of supervised placement) or equivalent reflective practice training, or one unit with a willingness to complete a second within 12 months of employment
Other relevant criteria:
Current National Police Check (Aged Care / Vulnerable People)
Willingness to comply with Opal Healthcare requirements including Statutory Declaration, NDIS Worker Check, and Access and Confidentiality Deed Poll (for residential Chaplains)
Certified Level 2 Independent Practitioner (or eligible) under Spiritual Care Australia Capabilities Framework 2023
Membership of Spiritual Care Australia or other relevant professional association (desirable)
