Kaitiaki Hononga Kāwanatanga Government Relations Manager
    Full-time
Company Description
Z has a clear purpose: Powering better journeys, today and tomorrow. As one of New Zealand’s largest transport energy companies, we have a commitment to delivering safe, secure, and reliable transport energy – with the opportunity to deliver new journeys, with new energy solutions in a changing world.
We are proud to be the Kiwi contingent in the Ampol Group, an independent Trans-Tasman energy company, with trading offices across the globe, which are united behind our shared purpose. While many of the challenges and opportunities we face go beyond national boundaries, together we have the scale, influence, and capability to deliver for our customers, communities, and our people.
Job Description
To provide a safe and reliable transport energy service to Aotearoa New Zealand, we work closely with government to ensure we can deliver against our strategic initiatives inline with policy and regulatory requirements, as well as having our industry voice heard.
In this newly created role of Kaitiaki Hononga Kāwanatanga Government Relations Manager within our Corporate Affairs team, you will drive our strategic engagement with government as well as providing positive influence to enable delivery against our strategy. With your strong working knowledge of the mechanics of government, alongside experience in the commercial sector, you will develop and execute a strategic engagement plan, proactively monitor the regulatory landscape and deliver quality advice to internal stakeholders across Z’s strategic priorities.
In this senior role you will be providing sound advice across a range of risks and subjects, leading the development of policy submissions and having a real impact at Z as a leader in the energy industry.
You will have the opportunity to
  • Develop and execute a coordinated programme of strategic engagement with key political and policy stakeholders, to support the delivery of Z’s strategy
  • Identify both short- and longer-term opportunities and risks to Z, and contribute to the strategic planning to realise or mitigate these
  • Develop genuine and productive relationships between Z leadership and key government decision makers; as well as building excellent relationships with MPs, advisors and staff across government to facilitate the successful delivery of the Corporate Affairs strategy
  • As co-chair of Z’s Regulatory Squad, proactively monitor the political and regulatory landscape and advise internal stakeholders about the relevance and implication of government decisions
  • Lead Z’s response to key government consultations and policy processes, by working across relevant business units and the Z leadership team to write and deliver submissions
Qualifications
What you’ll bring to Z
  • The combination of experience in the private sector and government, ideally 6+ years of Government Relations to bring to this senior role
  • Working knowledge of a heavily regulated environment, interpretation of policy and providing advice to a business
  • An established network of stakeholders and the ability to build beneficial relationships
  • Demonstrated experience of driving engagement and creating a planned approach to strategic initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills across a range of levels, sharing and gathering information as appropriate
  • Exposure to PR and communications, including securing coverage, providing commentary for media and maintaining strong and broad media contacts
And of course, you’ll be passionate about what matters to Z, embracing and living our values to help us deliver on our aspirations and broader commitment to Aotearoa New Zealand.
Don’t meet every single requirement? At Z we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
Additional Information
What we can offer you
  • A competitive remuneration package including short-term incentive plan, medical insurance for you and your family, enhanced employer contribution for Kiwi Saver
  • Generous leave provisions including enhanced sick leave, parental leave benefits and the option to buy additional leave
  • The balance of hybrid working, enjoy some of your week at home and some in our welcoming office space
  • The opportunity to contribute and be part of a supportive team that is here to make a difference
  • A chance to build your own capability through learning from some of the industry’s most knowledgeable people who have a desire to share their insights along with access to upskilling opportunities and career development across the organisation
  • Two days a year to do Good in your Hood, though our volunteering scheme, a chance for you to help others in your community in a meaningful way to you
