Manager, Laboratory Operations Job Summary: The Lab Manager is responsible for the overall management and efficient operation of the laboratory. This role includes overseeing lab personnel, maintaining compliance with safety regulations, ensuring accurate and timely testing and reporting, and managing resources and budgets to meet operational objectives. Key Responsibilities:
Operations Management:
Supervise daily laboratory operations, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with quality standards.
Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and best practices.
Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and operational.
Team Leadership:
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate lab staff.
Foster a collaborative, innovative, and high-performance team environment.
Develop staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for lab operations.
Quality Assurance:
Implement and monitor quality control programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, such as CLIA, CAP, or ISO standards.
Conduct regular audits and address any deficiencies.
Safety and Compliance:
Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety protocols and training staff on laboratory safety.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Serve as the point of contact for regulatory inspections and certifications.
Budget and Resource Management:
Develop and manage the laboratory budget, including staffing, equipment, and supplies.
Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Procure and inventory laboratory supplies.
Data Management and Reporting:
Oversee the accurate and timely reporting of lab results.
Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of laboratory data.
Generate reports and presentations for senior management as needed.
Strategic Planning:
Identify opportunities for lab growth, process improvement, and new technology adoption.
Collaborate with stakeholders to align laboratory goals with organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science, biology, chemistry, or a related field (master’s or Ph D preferred).
Experience:5+ years of laboratory experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., MT(ASCP),MT (AMT) MLT(ASCP), or equivalent) preferred.
Skills:
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge of laboratory safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
Proficient in data analysis and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment
Typically works in a laboratory setting with exposure to biological and chemical materials.
Must adhere to strict safety and quality control protocols.
