GENERAL PURPOSE & ACCOUNTABILITY The Engineering Technician role involves supporting geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties include safely performing laboratory analyses, construction observation, and construction materials testing to include the density of soils, asphalt, and various properties of freshly placed concrete. In addition, the collection of field samples during exploration activities, borehole logging, and field data collection will be required.
Work in a safe, efficient, and detail-oriented manner
Perform laboratory analyses in support of construction materials testing and geotechnical engineering projects
Collect field samples and perform field logging of exploratory test borings
Independently operate relevant equipment
Use exceptional time management skills and manage multiple assignments at any time.
Carrying out Marshall and Superpave tests within our Asphalt Laboratory
Ensuring all laboratory equipment is maintained and in good condition
This position will perform asphalt quality control/assurance laboratory and field testing
The Engineering Technician will record their daily activities to facilitate accurate payroll and service billing. The Engineering Technician must ensure that their workspace and vehicle are always kept clean and safe. Our top priority is to deliver high-quality and timely service that meets the needs and deadlines set by our clients and Principal Engineer. OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES In addition to the essential duties listed above, the Engineering Technician will be asked to perform miscellaneous duties that may include but are not limited to shipping soil samples, disposing of laboratory soils, and writing field and engineering reports or portions thereof. It is imperative that the individual work independently with minimum supervision and as part of a team of fellow Advanced Geotechnical Solutions employees, contractors, and client representatives. This position requires the promotion of a safe work environment. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED This position requires a high school diploma (or equivalent), fundamental mathematical skills, proficiency with written and oral communications, and construction/maintenance skills. Know how to use Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel. Hold a valid driver's license, have a satisfactory driving record, and have reliable transportation to and from work. PHYSICAL, TRAVEL & WORK ENVIRONMENT The Engineering Technician is an "outdoor/indoor position" that will entail working in all weather types, from hot and windy to cold and icy/slippery conditions. While working indoors in the laboratory, the position requires proper attire for a professional office. In addition, this position requires a person to be capable of routinely lifting 80 pounds. Periodic overnight travel and limited travel outside the state may be required.
