After School Program Advisor - High School

Job Description: Kyle Cares Advisor – East Providence High School
* Candidate must be at least 21 years of age
Position Overview: East Providence High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to serve as the Kyle Cares Advisor. This role is designed to support the creation and growth of an Active Minds chapter at the school, with a focus on promoting mental health awareness, diversity, inclusion, and equity. The Advisor will work closely with students, both athletes and non-athletes to build a supportive environment and help lead initiatives that address mental health challenges. The role will require meeting with students during WIN block and after school hours.
Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Engagement: Actively recruit and engage a diverse group of students, with an emphasis on students from underrepresented communities, to participate in the Active Minds chapter and mental health initiatives.
Mentorship & Support: Serve as a mentor and advocate for student mental health, providing guidance and support to ensure all students feel included and empowered to speak openly about mental health.
Program Development: Lead the establishment of an Active Minds chapter at East Providence High School, coordinating meetings, events, and campaigns that promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
Collaboration: Work in collaboration with the school administration, counselors, and Kyle Cares to develop and implement long-term strategies that support mental health education, awareness, and suicide prevention.
Outreach & Advocacy: Connect students with mental health resources and service providers both within and outside of the school. Advocate for initiatives that create a school environment where mental health is prioritized and discussed openly.
Event Coordination: Plan and oversee events such as mental health awareness campaigns, guest speaker sessions, and outreach activities, aligned with the Active Minds mission of ending the stigma around mental health.
Inclusivity Focus: Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in all mental health programming and create safe spaces for underrepresented students to share their experiences and concerns.
Student Leadership Development: Build student leadership within the Active Minds chapter by encouraging students to take on roles that enhance their skills and promote peer support.

Qualifications:

Experience working with high school students, preferably in a leadership, advisory, or mentorship role.
Strong commitment to mental health advocacy, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Knowledge or interest in mental health issues affecting teens and young adults, with an emphasis on the unique challenges faced by students of underrepresented groups.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Ability to work after school hours.
Passion for working with both athletes and non-athletes and creating inclusive spaces for all students.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
